In 2009, Chris completed Integrated Kinesiology Practitioner Training after experiencing the benefits of kinesiology for himself, and in 2010 trained to Diploma level with the School of Advanced Kinesiology.
What follows below is an outline of the therapy and its benefits. For more detailed information, please visit the website for the Kinesiology Association. (For information about other forms of kinesiology, please visit the website for the Kinesiology Federation.)
What is kinesiology?
Kinesiology is a truly holistic therapy that can be used to both help overcome symptoms, and to maintain health and well-being.
In kinesiology, muscle testing is used as an assessment tool to identify how the body is affected by stresses, whether they are emotional, chemical, structural or energetic in origin. Muscle testing is also used to identify exactly what the body needs to correct the imbalance caused by each stress.
Once identified, these corrections are then applied so that the body is released from each imbalance and is in the optimum state to heal itself.
In the 1960’s, an American chiropractor, George Goodheart, discovered a direct relationship between muscle strength and the functioning of the meridian system of the body, as used in acupuncture. He then found further connections with other systems and combined these to form a new system of assessment and treatment, calling it applied kinesiology. Following Goodheart’s original work, there have been further discoveries, developments and refinements, and Systematic Kinesiology derives from the latest research into this parent system.
How can kinesiology help you?
Systematic Kinesiology helps you to maintain general well-being, as well as assisting the body to overcome symptoms.
At a physical level, correcting imbalances in the relationship between muscles can help with postural problems and pain after trauma or injury, and strengthening weakened muscles can help athletic performance.
At an energetic level, stressful situations affect the way energy flows through the body. Balancing techniques can be used to help correct your responses to those situations, as well as break the connections between emotions and the memories of past events, enabling you to cope rationally with them instead of being overwhelmed by them.
Whatever your reasons for seeking treatment, once the imbalance related to your problem has been assessed and the key factor of the imbalance found, the specific treatment required by your body is identified and applied, resulting in a truly individualised therapy based on your needs at the time.
Of course, you don’t need to have a specific complaint in order to benefit from an appointment. Once the energy system of the body is rebalanced, structural misalignments are corrected, and any emotional stresses released, you should generally feel more relaxed, have more energy and a greater sense of well-being.

What happens during an appointment?
An appointment usually lasts for one hour but an extra 30 minutes is allowed for the first appointment. To begin with, details are taken of what you would like help with, together with any additional information needed to treat you as a unique person.
For the therapy itself you remain fully clothed (casual clothing recommended), although shoes need to be removed.
The muscle testing process involves light pressure applied gently to the limbs and occasionally the head and body. The balancing techniques that follow can include gentle manipulation of the pelvis or spine, light or deep massage, tracing an acupuncture meridian with the hand a couple of inches above the body, or lightly holding acupuncture points. Remember that only those corrections shown to be required by your body through muscle testing are applied in a therapy session.
Nutritional supplements, herbs, homeopathic remedies, tissue salts or flower essences may occasionally be identified to support the balancing process between appointments. Please be aware that herbs and supplements are not included in the consultation fee.
Effects of kinesiology.
Although Systematic Kinesiology treats everyone individually, most people experience good improvement in their symptoms with between three and six sessions.
During an appointment it may become apparent that changes to diet or lifestyle are required, in which case the speed and extent of your improvement will also depend on your willingness to make the recommended changes.
Once your body’s balance is restored, two or three routine balances a year are recommended to maintain good health.
